With a ZIG and a ZAG and a ZIP-ZAP-ZOOOOOOOM! They come at MIDNIGHT...not sunrise or noon. Meet my seven very special characters for the days of the week as they make their grand entrance one by one shooting across the night sky in WHERE DO THE MONDAYS GO? Children love the intro repeat rhyme and memorize it in no time during my author/storytime events. Of course, everyone has their favorite character. I always love to hear about their favorite character and what they in particular find special about it. As both the author and the creator of the Greenwich Super-Duper Days, I am often asked which character is my favorite. It is very hard for me to choose since they each have such unique qualities. If I had to choose - my favorite would have to be Super-Duper MONDAY since he was the first one of the group that I created and my inspiration for the rest of the day of the week characters. Also, MONDAY has always been perceived as the "underdog day" and he deserves to feel just as super as the rest of the days of the week! MONDAYS COME Sometimes they have a crooked frown. Sometimes they feel like upside down. Sometimes they paint the sky with gray. WATCH OUT! They can splash your day! Monday's game is TIC-TAC-TOE. The criss-cross game with X and O. Give Mondays super games to play. They will fly and laugh and say, "It's a super-duper day!" As everyone does - I love a good surprise. When I share the picture above of Super-Duper MONDAY with children or adults - I always ask them if they see anything special about him. As they start staring at him trying to figure it out - I give them a clue - sharing the fact that his hair is big swooping M's...then they suddenly smile when they see it....the letters for MONDAY which are blended into the character art work. Every character in the book has the respective day name blended/hidden in the character art work. Once everyone learns this, they are very excited to go to the next character to see what they look like and then look for the letters. I remember how I chuckled to myself when I wrote the rhyme for Super-Duper THURSDAY. THURSDAYS COME When they stomp and kick and pout, and tiny fireballs drip from their snout... Ring Dr. Doodles. Don't delay. Have them checked out right away! If their tongues have big black spots, you know for sure they have the knots. If their scales are brittle and pale, it's a definite case of dragon tail! The cure for both is simple and quick. One big CAN of chicken noodle soup will do the trick! Super-Duper WEDNESDAY is always a favorite with the girls. She really rocks with big spikey W's for her hair, a super-duper hot pink outfit, goggle glasses and black boots. Below is Super-Duper WEDNESDAY's rhyme. They climb the cliffs at Cupid's Bow. The day is long with their W in tow. Everyone cheers when they reach the top. They drag up W - it goes KER-PLOP! It's a wind in their face - super-slide ride as they flip and do tricks down the mountainside. They ride the air waves. They surf the air sea. They fly like the eagle - wild, proud and free! If you are a parent, teacher, librarian or educator, check out my web site at www.wheredothemondaysgo.com where you can view all of the characters and find out the story behind the story. The teachers I have shared WHERE DO THE MONDAYS GO? with are very excited to have this book for their library to introduce children to the days of the week. There are so many elements weaved into it including colors, places, time and most importantly - feelings. The ryhme below for Super-Duper SUNDAY holds a special place in everyone's heart and I feel it is a positive message all can relate to with regards to HOPE and renewal. SUNDAY COMES They rise in orange fashion but yellow is their passion. They sweep up all the wind. They mop up all the rain. They tuck the clouds in bed. They paint a sunset train. They light up every sky spreading beams of hope and try! Words are the looking glass. - Patricia Sloan Well, it's time for me to close here - THANK YOU for taking the time to read my blog about WHERE DO THE MONDAYS GO?
